RAE HIGHT was born in June 1949 and came of age during the turbulent years of the 1960s and 1970s. By high school graduation, Rae knew she wanted to work with people. She became a registered nurse in 1980 and began her work in the fields of rehabilitation and home health nursing.
In 1990, Rae completed her master’s degree in counseling at Seattle University. She continued her home health nursing work and began her career in the mental health field by working as a home health social worker and rehabilitation counselor. She established her private practice in 1993. In early 2008, Rae began an intensive advanced training program through the Center for Journal Therapy, which will lead to her designation as a Certified Clinical Journal Facilitator.
Rae has taught a number of classes through her nursing, social work, and counseling practice. She has also co-led counseling groups. After working as a counselor for a number of years, Rae took additional training and testing and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. In the late 1990s, Rae became a Level II Reiki practitioner and pursued training in Therapeutic Touch and Healing Touch. She provides energy balancing services as a component of her holistic practice.
Throughout the years, Rae has developed a personal and professional interest in writing. In 2004, she edited and published Voices of WWII Veterans...A Kaleidoscope of Memories, an oral history based on the lives of twenty men and women who served during “The Good War.”
Each story in Voices is a modified version of the veteran’s complete memoir, which Rae created through an individualized process of interviewing, manuscript transcription, and presentation of a completed memoir.
Rae finds joy and pleasure in life through her work, writing and being out in nature. She and Jim, her husband of thirty plus years, enjoy hiking, traveling, photography, bird watching and caring for their dogs and cats. Their home and Rae’s studio are nestled on five acres in the rural countryside of Port Orchard, Washington. A sampling of Rae's nature photography can be seen on her photo gallery page.
