VOICES OF WWII VETERANS
A Kaleidoscope of Memories

Voices of WWII Veterans …A Kaleidoscope of Memories is an oral history consisting of 395 pages, and includes a bibliography and glossary. Each veteran’s chapter is enhanced by two sheets of photographs on high glossy paper…one page for images from the 1940s and one page for current images.

The veterans, many who now call the Pacific Northwest home, represent the major branches of the military (Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, Marines, Army Nurse Corps, WACs, WAVES, and the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserves). Each veteran’s chapter consists of an introduction by Rae Dalton Hight, followed by the individual stories in their own words.

These men and women served in the turbulent, war torn South Pacific waters and the battlefields of the European and South Pacific theaters of operation, as well as Africa and the Mediterranean. Three men experienced the challenges and sorrows of being POWs…two participated in the deadly Black March through Germany in the winter of 1945. Several veterans served behind the lines, both stateside and abroad, helping to maintain the strength of our armed forces throughout the world.

Each chapter is a story within itself, and a representative part of the whole.

REVIEWS

"WOWSER! Rae, your beautiful, beautiful book arrived today in all its stunning color.

Holy Cow! Now listen here!!!! This is not some superficial compliment. Sheryl and I are professional book sellers. Between us we have about 25 years of everyday-of-our life book experience and have certainly dealt with thousands and thousands of books. Independently we BOTH, yes BOTH, said, 'I think is this is the most beautiful trade paperback I’ve ever seen!!!!!!'

Rae, that book may have cost you top dollar, but you got what you paid for. Those internal photos on top quality paper are MOST impressive. It’s a 10. Blue Chip. Gold Medal. A+. Top Drawer.

CONGRATULATIONS! Well Done!!"

Chapter 4, Voices of WWII Veterans

"When I received your book, I started out with, ‘This isn’t an area of my interest, but I will read it as promised. I started it at 9:45 pm; at 10:00 pm, my husband said ‘Let’s go to bed,’ and I said, ‘No Way…I am reading.’ I loved it. I didn’t want to stop. It was so well written I wanted to call you after 11:00 pm and scream, "More, more, more, please!"

Deborah Tripp,
Author and writer, poetry instructor

"I’m usually not much of a reader, but when I began reading your book, I couldn’t put it down. The veterans’ stories were so interesting, I wanted to know more about them. I’m looking forward to the next book about the home front."

Pat Harms

"Thank you for writing Voices of WWII Veterans."  I'm glad some of the stories will be preserved for future generations.  I was in the Army Air Corps, stationed in England and France after D-Day.  The stories brought back many memories, as I was there over for two years and also had some interesting experiences."
